By now, you’ve probably heard of Threads, inspired by Twitter’s (now known as “X”) recent take-over transition à la Elon Musk. What you may not have heard is that Threads has become the fastest growing social media platform of all time. Threads reached 100 million users within five days. Instagram, by comparison, took over two years to reach that same milestone. Whether Threads lasts a few years or ultimately replaces its competitor, it’s critical your business recognizes the benefits of meeting your prospects where they’re at. This way you have the opportunity to gain new followers on the ground floor. So welcome to Threads 101 for real estate.
WHAT THREADS IS AND WHAT IT’S NOT
First and foremost, Threads was not designed to be a “professional” platform. Rather, Threads is meant to encourage discussion, collaboration, and a sense of community. As a real estate agent, these are critical attributes when it comes to inspiring familiarity and trust in your business. Your potential and current clients want to feel like they know you and that they can trust you. Threads can be a great platform to get that conversation going. Keep the tone of your posts short, casual and playful. There’s a lot of interest in this new platform and you’ll find that folks want to explore and engage with your channel. One more thing: avoid copying and pasting from any of your other platforms onto Threads. People want to see originality, not robo-style content generation. It’s exciting to be a part of a social media platform where the organic reach and algorithm are still relatively untouched.
SETTING UP THREADS
You’ll find set-up of your Threads account to be a breeze. One reason is that you can login with your Instagram account and transfer all your bio-data directly from Instagram to Threads. Do keep in mind that if you wish to delete your Threads account, you will have to also delete your Instagram account. Another thing: you can’t draft or edit a post, but you can delete a post.
HOW OFTEN TO POST
Unfiltered posts and multiple posts each day are the name of the game with Threads. Short, pithy posts are best – no one wants to wade through a lot of text to figure out what you’re saying. And adding images and links to your posts is easy and recommended.
BRAND AWARENESS IS WHERE THREADS SHINES
Ditch any and all “salesy” posting and go for authenticity and personality. Show who you are rather than what you sell. In particular, Threads is a perfect platform for linking your blog…..and if you don’t have a blog, here’s why you need one. If you’re doing your blog right, it is busy offering very useful information to your audience – not trying to sell something. Threads is to Twitter/X what Gen Z (“zoomers”) is to Millenials: a meme-culture that is casual and bold. Don’t expect or use Threads for lead generation or to increase sales.
It’s important to recognize the developing nuances in Threads and to adopt a strategy early on, before advertising becomes a possibility. Be agile and experiment now to grow the organic following that signals success in the social media world. There is no better time than now.
