Who knew there was a “best” time to buy appliances? Well, it’s true, folks. The saying “timing is everything” applies to buying dishwashers, refrigerators, dryers, and other appliances for your home. If you don’t need a new appliance right away and can play the waiting game, you can score some serious deals. So when is the best time to buy appliances? There’s more than one answer.
End of the month
This is the perfect time to hunt for bargains. Stores have to meet quotas and are more likely to reduce prices toward the end of the month. This opens the gates to negotiation — if a retailer is trying to meet their sales goal, they’ll be more likely to discuss adjusting the price with you.
Holidays
Holidays are great for big savings. Our inboxes overflow with promotional offers, incentives, and lots of percentage signs. These are our favorite holidays for making some unforgettable deals:
Memorial Day
3-day weekends are great for deep discounts. Memorial Day deals tend to be percentage discounts, meaning a 99% chance your wallet will thank you. On Memorial Day 2017, Lowe’s appliances were marked down by 30%.
Fourth of July
Get fired up for some flashy deals! Shopping on this holiday is sure to get you more bang for your buck. Retailers host huge sales for the Fourth of July, some that even last a little while after the holiday. You can expect some enticing incentives as well — in 2017, Best Buy handed out more than $3,000 in gift cards to shoppers who bought appliances on the Fourth!
Labor Day
Another 3-day weekend, another opportunity for big savings. Labor Day is known for discounts and sometimes, free shipping. Retailers often provide free shipping if you spend a certain amount in the store.
Black Friday
Black Friday knows how to make those prices drop. If you have enough patience to wait in line, you can score some serious savings on appliances for your kitchen and laundry room.
Cyber Monday
Can’t bear the thought of standing in those Black Friday lines all hours of the night to score a deal? Consider Cyber Monday shopping from your couch while in your PJs. Sure, it may be safer to buy appliances in person, but you can score some serious deals online.
After new releases
September and October are the months that retailers tend to roll out new appliance models. What do new products have to do with saving money? Retailers need to make room for the new by getting rid of the old, meaning reduced prices on older models. They may not have the most up-to-date components, but at least they won’t make as large of a dent in your wallet!
End of the year
The end of the year is one of the best times to buy appliances. Retailers offer great deals in December as part of their end-of-the-year closeout sales. According to Consumer Reports, this is the best time to buy major appliances.
Always, always, always compare prices and keep quality in mind. A cheap appliance may save you money in the short term but could end up costing you much more later down the road.
