Tips to Tackle a Last-Minute Game Day Party

tips to tackle a last minute game day party

If you’re reading those group texts correctly, it looks like the Game Day Party is headed to your place on Sunday. This means extra seating, fun food, drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. Read our Tips to Tackle a Last-Minute Game Day Party, and we’re sure the only fumbles you’ll see are in the game.

“Extra Points” for the Little Things

Small gestures are a big hit:

  • Pre-fill individual disposable cups with smaller snacks such as pretzels and nuts your friends can grab as they wish.
  • Print your own football-themed labels for drink cups to help your guests keep track of their liquid fuel of choice.
  • Use AstroTurf as a table runner to give your snack table a “wow” factor. AstroTurf is available from places like The Home Depot and other home improvement stores.
  • Regardless of what sort of drinks you provide, be sure there is plenty of water available for your football fans.

Create the Perfect “Huddle” Spot

  • Get the TV appropriately situated – it’s the MVP of your gathering, so make sure it’s the focal point of your party.
  • Arrange your couch and other chairs so they face the television.
  • Place a generous amount of throw pillows on the floor for your guests who don’t mind the casual seating.
  • Depending upon the number of guests you expect,  drag a dining room chair (or two) in to assist.

Score a “Touchdown” with the Food

This is a last-minute gathering. It’s no time to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen on your homemade pizza recipe. Your guests probably want to partake in the national pastime of the “pigskin pig out.”

  • Use store-bought chips and dips
  • Buy a pre-cut veggie tray with dill or ranch dip
  • Make sure to buy or ask your guests to bring drinks. As host, your guests should have plenty of cold beer, sodas, and especially water on hand while watching the big game.

Use your crock-pot to offer these classics, (or soon to be classic), crowd-pleasers:

  • Your favorite chili or mac-and-cheese
  • Supreme Pizza Dip with ingredients like (you guessed it) cheese, pepperoni, pizza sauce, Italian sausage, olives, etc.
  • Spicy wing’s less messy cousin, the Buffalo Chicken Meatballs

Offer more substantial eats at half-time

  • Layout fixings for nachos or soft tacos and let your guests assemble their own at the table. Tacos are interactive, and your guests can assemble their own as they like.

Create a Super “Sundae” Bar

Who doesn’t love ice cream? A Sundae Bar is a great way to provide a dessert for your party-goers. Stack disposable bowls and let your guests go to town. Keep it simple! Provide vanilla and chocolate ice cream only. After all, the toppings are the main attraction. You won’t need a lot, just a variety to suit different tastes.

The Classics:

  • Hot Fudge
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Berries

The Crunchy:

  • Nuts
  • Granola

The Candy:

  •  M&M’s
  •  Sprinkles

With our Tips to Tackle a Last-Minute Game Day Party, you’ll keep your guest having fun and staying full for hours. Grab a chair, a seat on the couch, or maybe the floor. Have fun with your friends and enjoy this Super Sunday.
