A Mom is the one person in the world many of us feel we can turn to in both good times and bad. There is no denying that moms are important. As Mother’s Day rolls around once again, it’s time to celebrate the place our mothers have in our lives. If you are looking for some creative ways to make your mother feel special this Mother’s Day, here are ten creative ways to celebrate Mother’s Day:
1. Take Mom to the local Farmers’ Market
Celebrate mom by taking her to your local Farmers’ market. Farmers’ Markets are a fun, out-of-the-ordinary way to get fresh fruit, veggies, flowers, and novelties. It’s also a perfect way to run into people you know in the community and meet new ones too. And after you’re done with your shopping, treat your mom to a meal at your favorite local bistro. This is a great way to show your mom some love and support your community at the same time. (Check out the best farmers’ markets in the country…..)
2. What’s your “jam?”
Take something that’s your “jam”—like playing the piano, making a special dish, painting a picture, or writing a poem—and create a piece that’s just for your mom. More than likely she was pivotal in your development of that special skill you have, so that makes it even more meaningful. Sharing your talent is a great way to honor your mom.
3. Take your mom for a walk.
Walking is one of the most accessible and healthy forms of exercise for people of all ages and abilities. Chances are your mom loves a good walk and would enjoy it even more if you took your time to walk with her. Walking also creates a great space for good conversation. Walking with your mom is always time well spent. Celebrate your mom by walking with her.
4. Throw your mom a party!
Throw your mom a party! Invite her favorite friends and family members, and do all the planning, cooking, and cleaning in her honor. Make sure you choose a place that’s in a setting she will feel comfortable.
5. Give your mother a call.
Take time to call her and really listen. After that, take time to share your own experiences, thoughts, and feelings in a way that makes her feel good.
6. Help your mom with household projects.
Give your mom the gift of time by spearheading some of her projects. Be your mom’s handyman, painter, or gardener, and celebrate your her by helping mom with home projects.
7. Give your mother jewelry that’s personalized.
Celebrate mom with jewelry. But give her a piece of jewelry that’s personalized. Your mom will treasure and remember this for years to come.
8. Treat your mom to a pedicure.
Treat your mom to a pedicure and a foot massage….even if you’re a guy. And make sure you join her! Getting a dual pedicure is a great way to spend some time together in a relaxing way that adds some healthy self-care for you both.
9. Say “thank you.”
Write a heartfelt thank you, and really take the time to reflect on all the things your mother has done for you. Celebrate your mom by remembering all the times your mom has been there for you. Mentally tick through your years together, one by one. Not only will this written acknowledgment touch your mom, but you will also be filled with gratitude. Studies show that expressing and feeling gratitude and appreciation create happiness.
10. Be your Best Self.
This is possibly one of the most creative ways to celebrate Mother’s Day. Live your life on a daily basis being the best person you know how to be. Being your Best Self—courteous, respectful, and positively engaged in all the elements of your life—is the ultimate way to celebrate your mom…..and yourself.
If your mother has passed…..
And if your mom has passed, you can still spend time with her by holding her memory front and center as you engage in any of the ten activities suggested above.
For all moms everywhere: Happy Mother’s Day and thank you. We wouldn’t be here without you!
